ContainmentPrivacy policy
This policy covers the Containment app for Android and this website. Containment is made by BishBash ("we", "us"). If you have any questions, email [email protected].
The short version
- No accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- Games against bots stay entirely on your phone.
- Online games send only what's needed to play (the name you type and your moves) and are deleted when the room closes, which happens automatically 2 hours after a game ends.
What we collect, and why
Games against bots and the tutorial. Nothing leaves your phone. Your settings and whether you own Premium are stored on your device only.
Online games. When you host or join a room, the app uses Google Firebase:
- Anonymous sign-in. Firebase gives your copy of the app a random user ID so it can keep your seat if you reconnect. It isn't linked to your name, email or Google account.
- Your player name. The name you type is shown to the other players in that room.
- Game data. The room key, the seating order, your moves (who you pass samples to, your statements and votes), and whether you're online. The host's phone runs the game and sends each player only their own view of it.
We use this data only to run the game you're playing (our lawful basis is performing the service you asked for). Rooms hold up to 10 players. Room data is deleted when the host leaves the room, and automatically 2 hours after a game ends. If a room is abandoned part-way through a game (for example, the host's phone dies), no one can join it after 24 hours, and it's deleted the next time the host opens Containment or when its room key is reused. We don't keep game history.
Purchases. Premium is bought through Google Play. Google handles payment, and we never see your card details. The app asks Google Play whether you own Premium. See Google's privacy policy.
Support emails. If you email us, we use your email only to reply, and delete it when it's no longer needed.
Who processes data for us
Google Firebase (Realtime Database and Authentication) stores online room data for us as a service provider, in the EU (Belgium). Google may process data in other countries under its standard contractual safeguards. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.
Permissions
The app uses the internet (for online games and purchases) and vibration (for haptics, which you can turn off). It doesn't use your location, contacts, camera, microphone or files.
Children
Containment isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, or object to how it's used. Because room data is anonymous and deleted soon after each game, there's usually nothing left to provide, but email us and we'll help. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date at the top.
